Specialized Third-Cycle Studies in Philosophy

The Specialized Third-Cycle Studies in Philosophy constitute an alternative form of education intended for individuals who wish to obtain a doctoral degree in the discipline of philosophy outside of the Doctoral School (in an external mode), in accordance with the requirements set out in the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium

Admission Requirements

The Specialized Third-Cycle Studies in Philosophy are intended for individuals who wish to apply for a doctoral degree in the external mode and who hold a Master’s degree, an ecclesiastical Licentiate degree, and have English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level.

Admission criteria

Admission is based on the result of an entrance interview, during which the candidate is asked to present their research interests and previous academic achievements.

Only candidates who meet the admission requirements and have completed full registration in the IRK system will be eligible for the entrance interview.

Recruitment Schedule

  • start of online candidate registration:  18 Juny 2026 (9:00 a.m.)
  • end of online candidate registration: 26 September 2026 (12:00 p.m.)
  • entrance interview: 5 October 2026
  • announcement of results: 7 October 2026 (by 3:00 p.m.)
  • submission of documents by admitted candidates : 8–12 October 2026 (8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.)

Documents are submitted only by candidates qualified for admission, within the deadline specified in the recruitment schedule for document submission:

👉personally or by attorney-in-fact – at the secretariat responsible for the other form of education

List of Required Documents

👉 application form – downloaded from the IRK system (tab: Recruitment applicationsDocuments and next steps);

👉 diploma of completion of long-cycle Master’s studies or second-cycle studies  – for copying into the records;

👉 document certifying the award of the ecclesiastical Licentiate – for copying into the records;

👉 written consent of the competent Ordinary, superior of a religious order, or superior of an apostolic life society – for members of the clergy only;

👉 recommendation letter from a parish priest – for lay persons only.
